Twitter technology

Technology: Twitters reputation; good or bad?

With so many social networking sites growing at the speed of lighting, how has twitter been able to keep up?

How is it that a social networking site that reported have retained a measly £92,408 retrained profit last year, is becoming one of the most successful in the industry? It has been said that Twitter is worth at least $11bn (£7.3bn) on the flotation stock market, but with many other companies such as Facebook and Instagram gaining more popularity, how is it competing?

For those of you out there that don't use or haven't heard about Twitter its a collection of individual blogs (similar to Facebook) where people have the ability to post there daily thoughts and actions, known as 'Tweets'. It is available for anybody to use and accessible from anywhere (as long as you have internet access).

Twitter has over 100 million active users compared to this, 50 percent of these users log into their account every single day. I huge quantity of these users are from the U.S. that's a massive 100 million of the total 500 million people from all over the world that use it.

I think its safe to say that Twitter is expanding rather rapidly and definitely keeping up with the competition from major social networking sites, even though it doesn't seem that way.

Travel text

Our trip to Menorca in the late weeks of July proved to be rather excellent. Soaking up the heat of the sun, and occasionally dipping in the pool, it felt like a dream come true. There is no better way to spend a holiday than by the pool, right? The reflection of sun rays bouncing off of the water like gazelles being hunted. It was glorious. The way everybody is so chilled, almost as if they don't have a care in the world. Menorca was wonderful. I have to say the best part of it was definitely the nightlife. Strolling down to the marina, just as the sun was setting on the horizon, and getting a snippet of Spanish life. Experiencing so many new things, including the delicacy, that is of course, Tapas. You cannot go to Spain without getting a real taste of the culture, without hearing at least one Spanish guitar based piece of music. Its practically impossible. I must say, it was a pretty spectacular week. Even if it did take a lifetime to come around.

My monologue

Here we go again.

Same old, same old. Every day. I dread getting home. Home? It’s not a ‘home’. It’s a house. A place to live. No. Not even live. Survive. A place to survive.

Why do I make the effort? I give up. He's so distant. Constantly. The fights. Endless battles. Screaming. Swearing. Punching. Kicking. Cuts. Bruises. All of it.

It’s not just physical. It’s the mentality that comes with it. “You’re disgusting” he says. “You’re not good enough” he says. Well not directly. I know that’s what he’s thinking. I can tell. The look in his eyes. Nothing. Just emptiness. It’s as if he has been drained of all emotion. He isolates me. Cuts me off. From family. Friends. everyone.

How do I escape? When he loves me. And I love him. There is no other option. Nowhere else to go. No other way. I’ve tried. But then the threats start. Or even worse, the bribes. “I do it because I love you”. “We’ll go out tomorrow night, I’ll make it up to you” how can somebody justify their actions, with that? How!? He repulses me. But at the same time, I feel sorry for him. He must feel pretty low in himself, to do this to me, right? I mean, nobody in their right mind could even… I don’t know. I’m not a psychiatrist. It must be my fault.

I can’t do this anymore. I need to get away.

Orange punch: troubled technology

Orange punch: troubled technology.

They say that communication is key. Key to what exactly? My younger sister recently decided to purchase herself a £250 iPhone 4s. With all of the mod-cons that it possessed, the least she expected was a smooth transfer from one phone to the next. I can reassure you; this is the last thing that she encountered.

Orange prides itself on being one of the biggest companies with the latest news, entertainment and technology. But what relevance does this have, when simple customer service needs aren’t met. Don’t get me wrong, once you have battled through the endless problems of being put on hold -for what seems like an eternity- listening to various out dated tunes that have been “carefully selected” for the audience and speaking to numerous people (of whom all resemble robots that can’t understand a single word you’re saying) the end product is pretty good.

But don’t the obstacles kind of defeat the whole objective of the service? I mean, the least you expect is your needs to be met in as smooth a process as possible? When it came down to my sister and the activation of her new SIM, the company didn’t seem to have a clue what they were doing, and in turn decided to kill my dad’s phone. This as I’m sure many of you can understand did not go down too well, and after many furious calls on my dad’s behalf, we now have to wait for up to 3 working days to receive a knew one and go through the whole process again. Next time hoping to be more successful.
